Donation May Qualify for Town of Whitby Rebate
The Town of Whitby has a municipal election contribution rebate program. If you qualify, the Town may send you a rebate cheque after the election.
For example, a $100 donation could cost you $25 after a $75 Town rebate.

How it Works
- Donations of $25 or less don't receive a rebate
- For donations up to $100, the rebate is 75% of your donation
- For donations over $100, the rebate is $75 plus 25% of the amount over $100
- The highest rebate is $200. You'll reach that maximum with a total of $600 in eligible donations
- The $200 maximum is shared across all Whitby Council candidates
- If you donate to more than one candidate, your available rebate may be lower
Important Rules
- To receive the rebate, you must be entitled to vote in Whitby on Voting Day
- Only monetary donations from individuals who normally live in Ontario are allowed
- Corporations, businesses, trade unions, associations, and other groups can't donate
- The maximum donation is $1,200 per candidate
- Ontario also limits total donations to candidates running for the same council
- Donations above $25 can't be made in cash
- Donations aren't tax deductible
- Donations totalling more than $100 will be listed in the campaign's public financial statement with the donor's name and address, as required by Ontario law
Donations will be submitted to the Town's Clerk. For the 2026 election, the deadline is June 30, 2027.
The Town of Whitby decides rebate eligibility and issues the cheque. These examples assume you qualify, the Town approves your application, and you haven't used part of the $200 rebate maximum on donations to other Whitby Council candidates.
